Bluey Day

Formerly known as "Crop-A-Cop", Bluey Day has been run annually across Australia since 1996. Police officers and members of the Emergency Services pay $1000 to have their heads shaved, in support of children living with cancer and other serious illnesses.

Bluey Day 2002

On 10th August 2002, the Rotaract Club of South Perth joined forces with the PMH Foundation to provide help on Bluey Day. We provided the bulk of the volunteers, assisting both off and on stage. This included making sure fresh towels and warm water were always available for the hairdressors, ushering people on and off stage, spraying people's hair blue, selling raffle tickets and giving out stickers to children.

Bluey Day attracts a lot of media attention, and several members of the Rotaract Club of South Perth were interviewed for the TV show Balls N All. We also met some celebrities from radio station 92.9.

Special thanks go to club members Julia Azzalini, Amber Collins, Simone Collins, Corrie Hefter, Maya Kraj-Krajewski, Scott La Vertu, Celine Marston, Robyn McCausland, and Charmaine Pereira, as well as visiting Rotaractor Mattia Gamberoni from Italy, for helping out on the day.

Photos and Movies of Bluey Day 2002

Charmaine on stage While most of our members were initially assigned to help on stage, half were later assigned elsewhere as the stage was rather narrow. The four that were left on stage had their work cut out for them as 8 people had their heads shaved at a time!

Julia being interviewed for 'Balls N All' A team from the sports and leisure TV show "Balls N All" interviewed people throughout Bluey Day, including us! Celine, Mattia, Julia and Robyn were interviewed as a group, and when they couldn't remember our website's URL, a very embarrassed Simone joined them to give the correct address!

Maya with Darren from 92.9 Radio presenters Darren and Mel from 92.9 were present as MCs for Bluey Day, and towards the end of Bluey Day Dan got his head shaved as well. At the end of Bluey Day, all the volunteers were invited on stage to be acknowledged.

Bluey Day 2003

We enjoyed Bluey Day in 2002 so much that we jumped at the chance to do it again in August 2003. With our club being much smaller, we could only offer 5 volunteers in 2003 - club members Julia Azzalini, Simone Collins and Johanne Mills, past member Amber Collins and prospective member Vivianne Campbell.

This year the stage, at Morley rather than Whitfords, was much smaller, only accommodating 4 head shaves at a time, rather than the 8 of the previous year! Needless to say, things took a lot longer! We started off with the usual blue hair spraying, ushering, and raffle ticket selling, but as the hair dressers had been told it would finish around 12 o'clock, at 12 noon on the dot, all the other volunteers left, so the Rotaractors were left to finish off the head shaving as well...!

We decided not to volunteer for Bluey Day again.
