Fundraising Events
In Rotaract we do not go door-to-door knocking or rattle tins on the street; if we decide to fundraise for a project we make a point of "earning" the money through holding functions and charging an entry fee and holding raffles, or organising special events where we seek people to sponsor us to do something a little out of the ordinary!
We try to find fun, innovative ways to raise money for our various projects. When we organise a fundraising event, we try to give everyone who attends as much value for their money as possible while they have a good time.
Here are some of the larger fundraising events we have organised since the year 2000 - some are still annual events, while others were one-off events or events that we have chosen to discontinue. You can read about some of the other fundraising activities we have undertaken in the past or that are ongoing in the Finance Committee section.
Movie Night
Once every second year or so we organise a special screening of a children's movie - usually Harry Potter - on its opening night. We usually raise between $500 and $1000 from this event.
'A Winter's Wish' Christmas in July
Xmas in July was an international service fundraising event held on 27th July 2002 to raise funds for our "A Winter's Wish" project. Our Rotaract Club members cooked a 3 course meal for 40 guests, and musical entertainment was provided by club member Jeremy and some of his friends. This was a truly international event, with guests including James Searle, who travelled to Tanzania as a volunteer music teacher, 3 Tanzanian friends of his, and a visiting Rotaractor from Italy!
Death By Chocolate
Death By Chocolate was our major international service fundraising event in 2000 and 2001. We baked and created a huge array of chocolate delights to tantalise the taste buds of other Rotaractors and friends and let everyone eat as much as they could stomach! While the first Death By Chocolate night was well supported, the second year was a flop, so we decided to discontinue the event.
Electronic Quiz Night
Our Annual Electronic Quiz Night is our main fundraising event. We held our first Quiz Night in 2001, and apart from being a huge success, it was a heap of fun for all involved. We usually raise anywhere between $700 to $3000 from the night.
